Charles Faudree's Biography

Charles Faudree’s nearly four decades as an interior designer have allowed him to work throughout the United States and Europe. His designs have appeared in numerous publications including Veranda, House Beautiful, Southern Living Southern Accents, Traditional Home, Renovations Style, and House and Garden and Country Living. Additionally, his work is displayed in a variety of decorating books such as Garden Style, Country Living, Country Kitchens, Creative Ideas for Decorating, Decorating by Southern Living, Southern Accents Christmas, House Beautiful Christmas, Great Country French Style ,and Provencal and Holiday Homes. He accepted the award for Traditional Home’s Designer of the Year in 1995 and was chosen as one of the “Top Designers in America” by House Beautiful in 2002, 2003, and 2004.

Charles’ first book, Charles Faudree’s Country French Signature, was released by Gibbs-Smith Publishers to wide acclaim in 2003 and is now in its ninth printing with over 60,000 copies sold. While he has promoted the book in lectures around the country, USA Today has joined many shelter magazines in writing feature articles on the work, as well. A second book, Charles Faudree’s Country French Living, was released in 2005. They have been followed by the early 2008 release of Charles Faudree’s  Florals and Interiors with his good friend and multi talented floral designer Toni Garner. Later in 2008 he released Charles Faudree’s Interiors.

Charles has collaborated with Vervain to create his own fabric line. The line contains original artwork and documents inspired by Charles and translated into over 30 fabrics in over 150 color combinations. One toile, aptly named Cavalier Toile, features his two beloved King Charles Cavaliers. This fabric is the corner stone of his line.
Founded in 1970, Charles’ interior design studio and retail shop are located at 1345 East 15th Street in Tulsa, and on the web at www.charlesfaudree.com. Much like Charles’ signature rooms, the Charles Faudree Store features an eclectic mix of the casual and the formal, the old and the new. Open from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, customers are sure to find unique items-each one hand-selected by Charles during his frequent buying excursions.

Although the inventory is always changing, constant staples of the store include Provencal commodes, Chinoiserie tables, Swedish-style armoires, and Staffordshire figurines. As a natural selection of Charles’ design practice, the retail space is a celebration of contradiction. It is not uncommon to find Louis XV Bergere chairs flanking a table made of sand and seashells. As Charles likes to say “It is about the mix, not the match.

In addition to his design and retail work, Charles is actively involved in several charitable organizations. He is founder of the Hope Candlelight Home Tour, a board member of Tulsa Cares, past member of R.A.I.N. and St. Joseph Hospice, and is an active fundraiser for the Philbrook Museum of Art and the Cystic Fibrosis and Junior Diabetes Foundations.
