Of, By and For The People
SEPTEMBER 26 - SEPTEMBER 25, 2021
This exhibition spotlights the history of politics and campaigning in the Chattahoochee Valley while also seeking to encourage civic engagement and voting in the 2020 election cycle. In addition to national notables like Jimmy Carter, the exhibit focuses on the history of service and voting at local and state levels, encouraging visitors to consider the everyday importance of down-ballot races and special questions. Ongoing celebrations of the centennial of the 19th Amendment, granting women the right to vote, as well as reflection on the 55th anniversary of the Voting Rights Act of 1965, which more fully opened the vote to African Americans in the South, are both addressed. The exhibition features interactives and take-home material to help visitors more fully participate in the democratic process.
