  • The Columbus Museum established the Fund for African American art in late 2014. Its purpose is to support and encourage purchases, gifts, and bequests of art by significant African American artists. This fund empowers the Museum to acquire representative works of art by emerging and established African American makers. All are welcome to make contributions of any amount to this fund at any time.

The first three acquisitions from The Fund include Amy Sherald’s What’s different about Alice is that she has the most incisive way of telling the truth, 2017; Reginald Gammon’s Mothers, 1970; and Beverly Buchanan’s Sculpture House, 2011.

  • Friends of The Columbus Museum who wish to help shape its future have chosen a planned gift to extend their loyal support past their lifetime, while realizing substantial benefits for themselves. As a Museum donor, your planned gift can achieve personal goals, and help to sustain the Museum for generations to come.

  • Gifts of Stock

Gifts of appreciated securities (stocks, bonds, or mutual funds held for more than one year) are excellent ways to support The Columbus Museum. Such gifts are easy to make and may provide a greater tax benefit than an equivalent gift in cash. A gift of stock owned for more than one year entitles you to an income tax charitable deduction for the full fair market value of the donated asset. If the stock has appreciated, you also avoid any capital gains tax on the appreciation.

  • Gifts/Acquisition of Works of Art and History Objects

The Columbus Museum’s collection of fine and decorative art is a record of the changing artistic tastes of American culture from Colonial times to the present. Additionally, the Museum houses over 10,000 artifacts and objects that tell the stories of the Chattahoochee River Valley’s history. Gifts of works of art and historic objects allow the Museum to further expand our collections, as do contributions to the Acquisition Fund, which enable the Museum to take advantage of extraordinary opportunities should an exceptional piece turn up at auction.

For more information about donating an object or making a gift to the Acquisition Fund, please email curatorial@columbusmuseum.com.
